multi-disciplinary approach to the management of endocrine surgical
conditions, using the Bupa Cromwell Hospital’s state of the art
equipment for diagnosis. It is supported by a first class team of
specialists in medical endocrinology, radiology, anaesthesia and pathology. In addition, the Centre has
comprehensive support available from experts in radiotherapy, chemotherapy and intensive care.
Minimally invasive surgery
The Centre’s surgeons use minimally invasive techniques, such
as:
- focused scan-directed parathyroidectomy
- video-assisted parathyroidectomy and thyroidectomy
- laparoscopic adrenalectomy and,
- laparoscopic pancreatic tumour removal
Expert pathology
Operations are performed with an experienced
endocrine pathologist always present in theatre. Microscopic
assessment and the use of intraoperative rapid parathyroid hormone
assay allows confirmation of successful parathyroid surgery during
the procedure. Intraoperative nerve monitoring is also used to
safeguard the voice in both parathyroid and thyroid surgery.
