Ahmed discusses the gastric band procedure in Glamour
magazine

Bupa Cromwell Hospital’s bariatric consultant Mr Ahmed
Ahmed has been quoted in an article in
Glamour magazine’s June issue, which looks at gastric band
surgery.
The article follows the story of a woman in her late 20’s who
was a dress size 30, and her decision to have a gastric bypass in
order to reduce the health problems she was experiencing as a
result of being so overweight. One year after the procedure she
shrank down to a size 12 and weighed just over 11 stone.
Mr Ahmed describes the gastric band procedure, how long it takes
to recover and explains who would be suitable for this type of
surgery. When asked if this form of treatment is effective, he
states: “Extremely. Average weight loss is 30 per cent. It’s
known to resolve type 2 diabetes and lower cholesterol, blood
pressure and the risk of cancer.”
