One Two Free from MRSA

MRSA is a strain of bacteria which is resistant to many antibiotics.  People can carry it harmlessly on their skin but the danger is that when it gets into the body, for example through a wound following surgery, it causes an infection which is difficult to treat.

At Bupa Cromwell Hospital there were no reported cases of hospital acquired MRSA or C.difficile infections during 2009 and none so far for this year. Our Infection Prevention and Control Consultant Nurse constantly reviews and updates our hygiene standards and practices. Her appointment is the first of its kind in a private London hospital, underlining our dedication to maintaining excellent hygiene standards.

Bupa Cromwell Hospital is committed to your safety and our One Two Free programme is about helping to protect you from the risk of MRSA infection.  This programme ensures that patients are screened to see if they have the MRSA bacteria before being booked for admission to the hospital.

The screening process is simple:

MRSA campaign

If the test shows that you are free from MRSA bacteria then your appointment for admission can be confirmed.

If, however, you are one of the small proportion of people who carry the MRSA bacteria on your skin (described as being ‘colonised’ with MRSA), you will be given a decolonisation treatment which consists of an ointment for your nose and a body/hair wash which are used over a five day period.

Although this may cause you some inconvenience, it will help keep MRSA out of our hospital and keep you safe.
