Christina Merryfield, Lead Dietician at Bupa Cromwell Hospital, discusses the pitfalls of those Xmas recipes from TV chefs with the Daily Mail

The Hospital’s Lead Dietician, Christina Merryfield, was quoted extensively in a recent article by the Daily Mail which examined six popular TV chefs’ Christmas dinner recipes and their fat, salt and sugar content.

The article highlights the health implications of long term exposure to high fat, salt and sugar content and with Christina gives her verdict on how healthy these recipes really are as well as suggesting tweaks to make the chefs’ Xmas meals healthier.

Christina points out that our modern day recipes are more elaborate, and probably less healthy, than the old family ones. “Our grandmothers’ recipes were much simpler,’ says Christina. “They didn’t include the extras such as cream or cream cheese, butter and maple syrup that these chefs use. They would simply boil most vegetables and cook stuffing either inside the bird or in a separate dish, as opposed to the new fad of cramming it under the skin.”
