Health and Wellbeing Good Practice Award
22 April 2010
London’s Bupa Cromwell Hospital is very proud
to be one of a handful of recipients to win the new Investors in
People Health and Wellbeing Good Practice Award.
The new award provides recognition for
employers who have strengthened their organisation by investing in
the health and well-being of their employees.
Michele Lahey, the Chief Executive of Bupa
Cromwell Hospital, said: “It is fantastic that we have won this
award. Health is what we do and this is as true for our staff at
Bupa Cromwell Hospital, as it is for our patients. This award sends
out a clear and positive message of our high level of commitment
towards our employees.”
Backed by the Department of Health, Investors
in People worked with over 400 organisations to develop and pilot a
Good Practice Award framework. Extensive research has revealed that
effective and proactive management of health and wellbeing can
improve business performance by increasing productivity, reducing
sickness and absenteeism and enhancing employee retention.
Commenting on this new award, Jane Jones,
acting Chief Executive of Investors and People UK, said: “Over the
past five years we have worked with some of the UK’s leading
employers to analyse the role of health and wellbeing in the
workplace. This isn’t just about fruit and gym membership, and nor
is it about perks or ‘nice to haves’. It’s about embedding health
and wellbeing into the culture of the business to ensure everyone
benefits.
In working towards the award, the
hospital demonstrated how health and wellbeing was incorporated
into many aspects of the organisation, including on a cultural and
people management level. For example, the hospital offers free Bupa
healthcare for staff and subsidised cover for their relations, the
option of flexible working hours and an onsite professional
counsellor for staff who have bereavement, relationship or
financial issues.
Bupa Cromwell Hospital is also pleased to
announce that it has received a successful assessment for Investors
in People accreditation. In order to gain this endorsement, the
hospital clearly illustrated how it is developing its business
through supporting and helping its staff, as well as involving them
in the business planning process. Investors in People provides
tailored assessments designed to support organisations in planning,
implementing and evaluating effective strategies.
