Critical Care Unit (Adults)
For those seriously ill patients or for those
requiring specialised monitoring and treatment following major
surgery, patients are cared for in our specially designed Critical
Care Unit. Our Unit has 7 multi-purpose critical care beds to
care for patients either needing intensive care or high-dependency
nursing and medicine 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a
year.
The Unit is supported by dedicated
Intensivists led by Dr Mark Palazzo and a skilled nursing
team with advanced critical care skills led by our Critical Care
Lead Nurse Charlotte Young, ensuring that patients get the very
best in critical care medicine.
This service is supported by our other
clinical specialists including, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language, Radiology, Dieticians and
Pharmacy.
Our paediatric patients are cared for by specially trained
paediatric intensive care nurses in a designated paediatric
intensive care unit. For further information on paediatrics at Bupa
Cromwell Hospital, please go to our Paediatric Centre.
Planned and unplanned admissions
Most admissions to the Critical Care Unit are
planned, usually after major surgery, however, there are occasions
when patients will need to be treated if their condition changes
and they require closer monitoring.
Transfer back to the ward
Patients can usually be transferred back to
the ward environment when they are able to breathe on their own and
require less intensive monitoring.
Visiting hours
In order to allow patients as much rest as
possible and for their care and rehabilitation to be provided,
visiting hours are 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, barring
exceptional circumstances.
